A few more Sundays left this season
We are playing at Murphy through the end of November. After November, we take a break and will return to playing outdoors in the spring.
Get those games in while you can. Sundays at 8:30 AM.
There are some winter soccer-related activities that you can do after November. You can watch soccer on TV. You can wear soccer shirts. You can watch videos on YouTube on how to do a legal throw-in. There are a plethora of soccer-related activities.

My Adult Co-Ed Soccer Team Needs Women to Join the Roster
Hi,
The Co-Ed soccer team that I play on needs more women on the roster. We play Sunday nights in Acton at Acton Teamworks. The first game of the current session is this Sunday night. Knowing American Sign Language is useful, but not a prerequisite.
Please E-Mail me at 1l0j7m@gmail.com or catch-up with me at the field on Sunday morning if you are interested.
Thanks,
Lawrence

An extra hour to prepare for the game
Remember that this is the weekend that the clocks “fall back”. Although I think that changing the clocks twice a year is kind of dumb, this means that there is an opportunity for everyone to get an hour more of rest and possibly, potentially, hopefully show up on time for soccer this week.
Getting us started and balanced took a bit of doing last Sunday. Sunday is not my thinking day. So, it makes it more challenging when people keep rolling in late. I would rather see you late than not at all. Always happy to see you. But I am even happier to see you when you are on time.
Please bring a white shirt and a dark shirt. Not 100% sure why this bit is complex at times. Particularly this time of year, any white shirt will do. Heck, I don’t care if it is a white dress shirt from your days at Market Basket. Just bring them both so that we can balance things out.

Unseasonably Warm Weather Expected This Weekend
We are past the part of the year when temps are in the 60’s. So, the forecast for this weekend is really a gift. Sunny and 60 sounds like perfect weather for a game.
We’re playing through the end of November (weather permitting). 8:30 kick-off at Murphy Field.
You would think that it would go without saying (you’d be wrong) that everyone should bring a dark shirt AND a white shirt and NOT a grey shirt.

It is your job to blend in with the group
I love Sunday morning soccer, but the tone and tenor of the last few weeks is troubling and will change starting now.
Our guidelines are:
Players have to be high school age or older
Bring a white shirt and a dark shirt
Respect the game
Respect each other
This was supposed to be a blog about what a legal throw-in looks like (some of you may really want to google that).
Our game is a blend. A blend of the older players, younger players, very talented players, and the rest of us. It works for us. Many of us have been playing together for more than 15 years. A number of the men who play on Sundays we knew when they were children. We’re all playing to the limit of our ability, getting some exercise, having some fun, and trying not to get hurt.
If you want to play soccer with us on Sundays, it is YOUR JOB to blend in with us. If you do not think that we are good enough, then I am happy to help you find a different game where you may be happier. We are a bunch of folks just having a kick around.
We know how to slide tackle, but we consider it too dangerous. So, we don’t allow it. We also clamp down on high kicks, pushing, and any other plays that lead to injury or confrontation.
We take turns playing goal keeper. If you have not been taking your turn in goal, this would be a very good week to do so.
We care about the rules, but I think that we are all sick to death of the phantom off-side calls. Try to stay on side and only call it when it is dead obvious. Or wait until more than one person has called it. Or let the play go if it is off by a whisker.
If you have a hand ball, call it on yourself. Seeing people call ticky tacky handballs on the other team and then not calling it on themselves shows a lack of respect.
If you do not know how to do a legal throw-in, do not be the player doing it. If you do know, but decide to offer up a garbage throw-in anyway, then you may not be playing on the correct field on the right day.
If you can’t bring a white shirt and a dark shirt, then it makes it harder to balance the teams. A balanced game is more fun for everyone. I have met people who just want to play with only the “best” players. Yeah. We balance teams. You need to be prepared to switch teams if needed.

Just so we are clear about this…it’s as simple as black and white
I love that soccer is an international and multi-cultural game. I do wonder sometimes if things get lost in translation. For example: Bring a white shirt and a dark shirt every week.
Bring a white shirt and a dark shirt every week. Traiga una camisa blanca y una camisa oscura cada semana. Apportez une chemise blanche et une chemise foncée chaque semaine. Φέρτε ένα λευκό πουκάμισο και ένα σκούρο πουκάμισο κάθε εβδομάδα. Przynoś co tydzień białą koszulę i ciemną koszulę. យកអាវពណ៌សមួយ និងអាវងងឹតមួយក្នុងមួយសប្តាហ៍។ Porta una camicia bianca e una camicia scura ogni settimana. Щотижня беріть з собою білу сорочку і темну сорочку. Bring a white shirt and a dark shirt every week. E lawe mai i hoʻokahi pālule keʻokeʻo a me hoʻokahi pālule ʻeleʻele i kēlā me kēia pule. הביאו חולצה אחת לבנה וחולצה אחת כהה בכל שבוע Bréngt all Woch ee wäisst Hiem an een donkelen Hiem mat. Bawa hiji kaos bodas sareng hiji kaos poék unggal minggu. Oh...I've learned how to use Google Translate. Lawrence

September Soccer
The text of last week’s post did not publish. It was a note to point out that the USNMT has a lot of games coming up and may need players. So, we should all keep training. I am guessing a rival team sabotaged the post.
Watching the weather for Sunday mornings can be a bit of a job in and of itself. Most days I figure out the weather by looking out the window at the sky to the west. But tracking the weather in advance of our soccer games takes more technology and sophistication than that. By the time I can look at the sky to the west, the weather is kind of already here.
Rain has been predicted for Sunday. We need that rain. But, I want to play soccer. We can’t play in a thunderstorm. I am taller than many of you. So, I would be at risk. But the good news is that the current forecast is that the rain (if there is any) will be in the afternoon.
We are still at Murphy this week. Kick-off at 8:30 AM. Novel idea here: bring a white shirt and a dark shirt. Bring water too. And bring a soccer ball if you have one.
Looking forward to seeing you Sunday.
