Soccer is no Labor at all

The text of last week’s post did not publish. It was a note to point out that the USNMT has a lot of games coming up and may need players. So, we should all keep training. I am guessing a rival team sabotaged the post.

Watching the weather for Sunday mornings can be a bit of a job in and of itself. Most days I figure out the weather by looking out the window at the sky to the west. But tracking the weather in advance of our soccer games takes more technology and sophistication than that. By the time I can look at the sky to the west, the weather is kind of already here.

Rain has been predicted for Sunday. We need that rain. But, I want to play soccer. We can’t play in a thunderstorm. I am taller than many of you. So, I would be at risk. But the good news is that the current forecast is that the rain (if there is any) will be in the afternoon.

We are still at Murphy this week. Kick-off at 8:30 AM. Novel idea here: bring a white shirt and a dark shirt. Bring water too. And bring a soccer ball if you have one.

Looking forward to seeing you Sunday.

Best weather in history of planet Earth predicted for Sunday

I am not a meteorologist (nor am I a zoologist, gemologist, or piano tuner). but the real meteorologists have officially said that this is NOT the weekend to skip soccer. I appreciate that their forecasts are soccer-focused.

Murphy Field. 8:30 AM kick-off. Bring water. Bring a dark shirt and a white shirt. Be ready to play.

Last week was just like Abner Doubleday drew it up

We had a perfect 11 v 11. Well, we had 22 players. Perfect may be too big a stretch. But it felt perfect to me. We work with the number of players that show up.

If you want to show up, be ready to kick-off at 8:30 AM. White shirt, black shirt. Yes. You need a shirt. Actually, you need two of them.

Still a bit warm. Bringing water seems like a very good idea. Hydrate today in advance of tomorrow and stay hydrated.

See you at Murphy Field. 8:30 kick-off.

Other pickup games during the week…

After this week’s game, there was some discussion about other pickup games during the week. Abdel mentioned this as an option:

Here is the Pick Up Soccer meetup out of beuuuurrrlington:)

Summertime and the Soccer is Easy

The 8:30 AM kick-off time works well this time of year. Still need to bring water, bring a white shirt, and bring a dark shirt. See you at Murphy (off of Mill Road).

The Only Reason to Wear Grey

I won’t leave you in suspense. The only reason to wear a grey shirt is if you are playing keeper.

I plan on playing keeper for part of the game on Sunday. Unless someone wants to play an extended time as keeper, we share the duty. Be prepared to take a turn in goal.

I am looking forward to a nice, full field game. I am sure that you all enjoyed the quiet, but I am back this week.

I encourage everyone to take the time to do a proper warm-up before kick-off. Kick-off is at 9:00 AM. To get the time to warm-up properly, you may want to arrive by 8:40 AM. Do what you can to take care and avoid injuries.

9:00 AM kick-off at Murphy. Bring water. Bring a white shirt and bring a dark shirt.

Celebrate Independence with Soccer

I know that I have occasionally joked around. But I seriously think of soccer as quintessentially American. Not invented here. Not widely played here until recently. Not considered one of the major sports. So, why do I think of it as quintessentially American?

Everybody plays soccer. Everybody watches soccer. Being on a soccer field is to often be playing with people born in Europe, South America, North America, Asia, Africa, and Australia — all at the same time. That’s why. I love it.

I love Sunday mornings. I love playing with all of you. Please come out to play. Murphy Field at 9:00 AM kick-off. See you there.

P.S. The flag is not red, white, and grey. Bring a white shirt and a dark shirt.
