Pickup Soccer this Sunday, 4/21 at 9 a.m.

We had a decent turnout of 11 players for our inaugural pickup soccer game of 2013, and now that the word is getting out that we’re starting up again, I hope that a few more players can make it for this Sunday’s game. The weather is expected to be sunny and on the cool side, just the way we like it, so remember to bring a white and dark shirt and a water bottle for a 9:00 start at South Row Field. Hope you can make it!

Let’s Play! Pickup soccer this Sunday, 4/14 at 9AM South Row

Time to dust off those cleats* and join us on the field for another season of pickup soccer! Our Sunday pickup soccer game will be starting up this Sunday, April 14th at 9 a.m. at South Row Field. Remember to bring a white and dark colored shirt and a water bottle. Hope to see you there!

*(Kap will be removing his spankin’ new cleats from the pressurized glass enclosure where he’s been storing them this winter, hoping that his late season glory will be extended into 2013. Rodrigo says: “You couldn’t stop me then, you won’t stop me now.” Vyach says: I can beat you in my bare feet–let’s play!”)

Can’t Pass Up This Gift of a Sunday: Let’s Play!

Sunday morning is expected to be very comfortable, with sunny skies and temps getting into the low 40’s. Can’t beat that for December weather, so let’s play! I’ve got family visiting from Australia, and they’re very excited to come join our pickup game this weekend (they’d be happy to play rugby as well). Hope to see you at South Row Field at 9 a.m.

P.S. A few weekends ago someone left a Black zip-up sweatshirt on the field. You can contact Brian Miner if you know who it belongs to.

‘Twas the Season

It looks like the snow isn’t going away this morning, so we will NOT have a pickup game today. It’s unlikely that we’ll get another chance this year, so let’s call it a season. If mother nature rallies and gives us a gift of a day, I won’t hesitate to post and get something going, but otherwise have a great winter and we can look forward to spring soccer soon enough.

P.S. While we’ve been playing pickup soccer for many years in Chelmsford, this has been the inaugural season of the Chelmsford Sunday Soccer Club. I hope to convene the first annual meeting of the Club sometime early next year before we begin playing. It will involve some food, libations, and about 30 seconds of business. If I can get my act together, look for an invite sometime later this winter. Happy holidays!

NO Soccer on Sunday morning, 11/25; not sure if this ends the season

Temps are expected to drop to the mid-20’s on Saturday night with wind chills in the teens, so that’s going to make the field too frozen to safely play tomorrow morning even with a delayed start (weather on Sunday has wind chills continuing in the teens, so it’s not going to warm up). We’ll see what happens this week with the weather (maybe snow on Wednesday?) so check back again next weekend and let’s hope we can sneak in another pickup game before winter really sets in.

Pickup Soccer on Sunday, 11/11

It should be another beautiful, crisp fall morning for pickup soccer at South Row Field. There won’t be many more chances like this as we’ll suspend play when there is a hard freeze. Be there at 9 a.m. and give yourself time to warm up.

Thanks for all of the well wishes regarding my son Alexander. Just a quick update: he had 9.5 hours of surgery on Wednesday to repair the damage, and is slowly recovering at Mass General. He got out of the ICU yesterday and should be able to come home in a few days. The surgery went well, and aside from some relatively minor nerve damage he should be able to make a nearly full recovery–hopefully he’ll be back at school in another month or so. Thanks again for all of the support.

Pickup Game on Sunday, Nov. 4th

It should be a beautiful, crisp fall morning for the pickup game today at 9 a.m. at South Row Field. Have a great game!

Unfortunately I won’t be able to make it; my son Alex was playing goalie in a playoff game for his high school team and was kicked in the face after diving to block a shot. He’s at MassGeneral and will need extensive surgery to repair all of the damage. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers as we go through this ordeal.
