Field is not usable — no soccer this Sunday

We have to protect the field and not play on it when it is not playable. It is NOT playable at this time.

You’re still expected to train tomorrow on your own. Perhaps review how throw-ins work.

See you next Sunday (weather permitting).

Let’s Play Soccer on Sunday

In the early morning, I heard geese. Like most of us, when I hear a flock of geese, I think of soccer. It is our duty and obligation to keep the geese off the soccer fields. How do we do this? Simple, by playing soccer on the fields.

If the weather is dry on Sunday morning, let’s get together at Murphy for a kick-off at 9:00 AM.

It should go without saying (but rarely does) that you should bring a dark shirt and a white shirt so that we can balance the teams.

No more games on grass until the spring

I am not sure what usual weather is anymore. But, in my experience, this has been a mild December thus far. It is tempting to play on Sunday mornings. However, we have to be careful to protest the grass fields. Playing on grass this time of year would beat up the field. We can’t do that.

If someone wants to figure out the availability of the turf field, maybe we can play there if the weather allows. But, that is to be determined. For now, we are done outdoors until spring.

I know that we are all eager to play. Every winter I lament the end of the outdoor season and am already wishing for spring.

The End of Daylight Savings Time

This is the weekend when the clocks “fall back”. That means that it should be even easier to be on time for soccer this weekend. 8:30 kick-off at Murphy.

Far be it from me to complain about it, but I think that the whole “spring forward” and “fall back” thing is stupid. I wish that they would just adjust it by 30 minutes and then never touch it again. But it does give us one (exactly one) Sunday each year when we have a reasonable expectation of being on time for kick-off.

The weather looks good for Sunday. Perfect day for soccer. I am still out with an injury and can’t join this week. I hope that you have fun.

Grey Skies. White Shirts

It is raining as I write this, but the weather forecast says that it should stop early enough for us to play this week. I hope so. But, please pay attention to the weather in the morning. Remember that we do not play on the grass fields if they are wet.

8:30 AM kick-off at Murphy. White shirt and a dark shirt. Never a grey shirt. Pretty simple. Seems silly to even mention it.

Global Weirding — Summer of 2023

We all know that I track the weather pretty carefully. I start by looking out my west-facing windows. That tells me what weather is coming soon. But we live in a time that there are lots of weather resources on the Internet to give me a clearer picture of what is coming than my kitchen windows can.

I can’t remember a time when so many storms — big storms — would appear when none were predicted the day before or even hours before. This Sunday may or may not be one of those days. Earlier in the week the forecast looked great. Today it looks less great.

Too much rain was a problem that I did not have on my 2023 bingo card. The last several years have technically been droughts Now we get multiple inches of rain every week and had a record-breaking storm the other day. Seeing all of the wildfires in other places, I am thinking that too much rain is the lesser of two evils.

Too much rain has ruined my garden — especially the tomatoes. Too much rain has also cost us some games this year. We can’t play on the grass fields if it is raining more than a drizzle.

It is a coin flip for Sunday morning but I am hopeful that we are going to get the game in and the storms pass us by. It is a weird year.

If the weather is conducive, we will play at Murphy with a kick-off at 8:30 AM. See you there.

Soccer? Well, duh!

It is a Sunday morning. If it is not raining, we play soccer. Even if there is no post, then we just follow the directions of the previous post.

8:30 AM kick-off at Murphy Field. White shirt, dark shirt. Let’s see what we can do about starting on time.

As a bonus, I promise not to make fun of any of your throw-ins this week. This is a limited time offer (not valid in all states).

Rain on Saturday. Soccer on Sunday.

8:30 AM kick-off at Murphy Field.

Sunday will be perfect soccer weather (if the forecast can be believed). But any weather where we can play soccer is perfect soccer weather.

White shirt. Dark shirt. No grey shirts. Try to be on time. Soccer. Just soccer.

As was said last week: if you think there was a foul, the ball was out of bounds, or someone was offside, and so forth and YOU ARE SURE OF IT, then say it right away and loudly. No arguing. No bickering. Just be sure before you say something, but say it quickly and clearly. It is a game. We’re just having some fun and getting some exercise.

Moving back to Murphy Field this Sunday for 8:30 AM kick-off

I just checked. There are still goals at Murphy and the grass seems to have been cut. No lines that I can see, but I don’t care. We could use flat cones to establish a line if we wanted to.

I missed our Sunday game the last few Sundays. Need to get back out there. Hope to see you all on Sunday.
