Sunday soccer at 8:30 am!

Due to the upcoming hot weather, we are planning to start at 8:30 AM starting this Sunday, June 22. Please plan to be at the Murphy field few minutes before so we can start on time. And please remember to bring a white and a dark shirt with plenty of water to stay hydrated!

Memorial Day weekend soccer!

Hi folks, looks like the weather is improving and we should be able to play tomorrow (Sunday, May 25) morning.
Let’s be there by 8:45 am so we can do a player count, balance the teams and start promptly at 9 am. (Last weekend we had to reshuffle and move fields which was not ideal.)

A reminder that we will play at Murphy field unless noted otherwise. And please bring a dark and a white shirt.

Regards, Rishi

Good day for soccer! (May 11)

Hi folks, this is Rishi. I’ll be stepping in to help Lawrence and Bruce by posting here occasionally.

Looks like the weather gods are finally cooperating with us! It should be a fine day to play tomorrow.

As Lawrence would say, “grey shirts are bad, white shirts are good, and dark shirts are good. Shirts that are half white and half dark are just annoying” πŸ™‚

Sunday is Mother’s Day, so let’s meet before 9 a.m. for a prompt start, and we can get back home for the celebrations.

Best, Rishi

This is a perfect weekend to start playing

It looks like we can finally get started with our outdoors pickup soccer game. The weather forecast looks great for tomorrow and there seems to be enough people interested in playing, so lets get out there and play some soccer tomorrow, 4/20. We are still at Murphy Field (see directions in the blog menu) and start playing at 9am. Bring a white shirt and a dark shirt so we can divide up teams.

Beginning of Outdoor Season

We’re all eager to get back on the field and play. I know that I look forward to it every year.

When we resume, we are going to play at Murphy at 9:00 AM on Sundays. Same as last year. However, it rained a lot today and it is expected to rain on Sunday morning. We don’t play on the grass fields if they are wet. We need to not beat them up or abuse them.

When we do start, please remember to bring BOTH a white shirt and a dark shirt and not bring a grey shirt. I know that some of you bring only one shirt. Yeah. That makes it harder to balance the teams. So, please bring both.

I am still on the injury list. You will have to wait to hear me say “Oh My God!” when I see some of the throw-ins that you swear are legal (they’re not). I expect that when I return after a year away that things like questionable throw-ins will still be the order of business as usual. Although, you could surprise me.

All kidding aside, I am eager to return and miss the group. Please keep the game going.

Last Game of the Year this Sunday

As we wrap up another season, I am glad that the weather looks favorable for our last run of the year. I hope that everyone can make it to Murphy for the game this Sunday. Bring a white shirt and a dark shirt.

Of course, the end of the season may cause you to ponder and reflect on your personal soccer journey. As the great philosopher, and Athens FC box-to-box midfielder, Soccer Tees said; “Let’s play soccer like Achilles at the gates of Troy!” I think that what Soccer Tees was trying to say is that you shouldn’t think too much and shouldn’t let other things get in the way. When it is time to play soccer. Just show up and have fun.

Sunday morning at Murphy Field kick-off at 9:00 AM. Last game of 2024. Don’t think too much. Just show up and play. Soccer Tees would be proud.

Frosty Soccer Season

As I sit here, the weather is unseasonably warm. However, that’s about to change. No surprise there. Spoiler alert: it gets colder about this time every year — right about this time.

In the warmer months, we kick off at about 8:30 AM. (Although I would not call us fanatics about hitting our start time.) By 9:00 AM this Sunday, the temps should be in the low 40s. That works. By that time, the frost should be off the grass.

Let’s kick-off by 9:00 AM. Come before that so you can have a proper warm-up before playing. If you can’t get there by 9:00, get there when you can.

Please bring a white shirt and a dark shirt. This is critical to balance the teams.

Also, remember that the clocks “fall back” an hour this weekend. Be aware of time. When you see me, remember to ask me to expound on why I think changing the clocks is really stupid. It is.

Lastly, happy Diwali! I love the holiday season (Halloween to the Super Bowl).

The most perfect time of year for soccer

Those of you who know me (and many of you have known me for many years) know that I think EVERY day is a perfect day to play soccer. But there’s just something wonderful about playing this time of year.

There is a nip in the air in the morning, but the temperatures quickly get to an almost ideal temp by the time the game really gets going. Warm enough, but not too hot. Humidity is usually low. The leaves on the trees are colorful. It feels like the game was just made for October. As perfect as it feels, you know in the back of your mind that these ideal conditions don’t last. November is generally a mixed bag. Then we are done playing outdoors on the big grass fields until next spring. When the weather is right, October is just so perfect.

The weather forecast for this Sunday looks great. I know that the Patriots are playing the morning game. Just record that and watch it when you get home. PLAYING is so much more fun than watching people play. Yardwork can wait until the afternoon, or you should get that out of the way on Saturday. Come play. Don’t watch the clock. Just play as long as we can.

When you are doing yardwork and errands, wear your grey shirts. On Sunday mornings, bring a white shirt and a colored shirt. Turn your phone off. Don’t look at your watch (or ask Dave what time it is). Just play.

8:30 AM at Murphy Field.

Kick-off is at 8:30 AM every Sunday

I am looking for you to commit to being on time to be fully warmed-up and ready to kick-off this Sunday no later than 8:29 AM.

It drags the whole game down when so many people are late and ill-prepared to start on time. If Sunday morning is not the highlight of your weekend, then I just don’t understand. It is the highlight of my weekend. I can’t wait to play.

Please set your alarm to make sure that you get up on time to be at the field no later than 8:10 AM. If you had a late night the night before, you can take a nap after lunch. Naps are great. Not as great as soccer, but naps are pretty great too.

On a personal note…I am still injured and still working on getting well enough to be back on the field. Not there yet. Hoping to be back in 2025. I miss everything about our Sunday morning games.

Every Sunday at Murphy at 8:30 AM

We’re in mid-season form now. I may not post to the blog every week. Just know that we are at Murphy each week at 8:30 AM unless there is a post that says otherwise.

Bring a white shirt. Bring a dark shirt. Bring a willingness to take your turn as goalkeeper. Bring a good attitude. It is a fun kickaround. We take it serious enough, but not too seriously.
