After a long week we need a long game of soccer

I could list the regulars who were missing last week, but I will hold off doing so if they show up this week. Not you, Tony. We know that you’re injured. Hope that we see everyone this weekend.

Weather looks really nice. Predictions are for temps in the mid-60’s, no rain, some whining about who is and is not offside, and a lot of fun playing soccer. Bring a white shirt, bring a dark shirt, bring water. Let’s kick-off at 8:30 on the big field at Harrington.

Let’s enjoy the season while it lasts

Every year, in November, we have weeks with low numbers. People say how much they miss the weather of September and early October. So, come play now — when the conditions are pretty much perfect. In November they’ll be complaining about the cold. We’ll still play, but they’ll be complaining. Come play at Harrington Sunday at 8:30 on the big field.

Why do I need to bring two shirts?

Our experience has been that everyone has more fun and everyone plays harder if the game is competitive. To do this, we try to balance the teams. Sometimes we rebalance them during the game. The easiest way in which we can do this is if everybody has a white shirt and a dark shirt with them and is willing to be flexible. I tease a lot about the grey shirts, but those just muddle everything up. Funny thing is that grey is what I wear the most when I am working out and hanging out. It just makes recognizing who is on what team difficult.

Bring a white shirt, bring a dark shirt, bring water, and be ready to kick-off at 8:28 on Sunday morning. We’re on the big field at Harrington.

The weather is expected to be in the high 50’s at kick-off and the high 60’s by the time that we wrap up. In other words, perfect.

Why does the game keep moving?

A couple of people have recently asked me why our game moves fields. The simple answer is that we live within the CYSA ecosystem.

Our game is not technically part of CYSA, but the main purpose has always been as an outlet for coaches, and those interested in coaching, to have a place to play. Coaches who also play are usually better coaches and are almost always easier coaches to play for. Since soccer is a game of mistakes, a playing coach does not have to think too hard to remember when he or she mishandled the ball, made a bad pass, missed a shot, etc. Usually makes them more patient with the kids. I think that it is also valuable for all of us to remember that soccer is a game. Just a game. If the adults are playing too, that’s a bit easier to remember.

Our game also exists for older players (high school and above) to have a place to play without coaching, without anyone telling them where to play, and to work on skills. I noticed one player trying to play almost entirely with his left recently. It was cool. I also really enjoy the players who used to play for Chelmsford who still play on Sundays.

CYSA goes to great lengths to manage the fields. They set them up in different configurations each season, they rest them, they maintain them very well. We work with CYSA to play where they would like us to play. In the summer and the winter that is the McCarthy turf. In the spring and fall we get CYSA to direct us. Like I said, we live inside of the CYSA ecosystem. For this fall season, we are on the big field at Harrington.

The only downside of any of this is that you are forced to have to read this blog from time to time. Otherwise, it is all cool.

One more note. I think that more of us may have to bring soccer balls on Sunday.

Harrington on Sunday

As many of you saw, the turf at McCarthy is now occupied by miniature football players. This has allowed us to return to the grass fields at Harrington.

Let’s be ready to kick-off at 8:28 AM.

I still have not got confirmation as to when the USMNT scouts are coming to evaluate us. Let’s just keep playing and training so we are ready when they do turn up.

Moving to Harrington. Sunday at 8:30

We’re moving back to the grass fields of Harrington. Be ready to kick-off at 8:30.

We had a very nice 11 v 11 last week. Hopefully, we can have a good turnout this week too.

It’s a game. Nothing laborious about it.

Perfect weather expected for our game the day before Labor Day. 8:30 at McCarthy turf. Looking forward to it.

One of the things I love about our Sunday game is that it is just a game. Not that a league and teams and standings are not fun in their way. But, on Sundays we just show up and simply play soccer with old friends and new one friends. I think that is how soccer should be.

Cloudy and not raining — 8:30 at McCarthy

Not exactly the forecast that will turn Facebook into the Weather Channel, but this Sunday looks to be a good day to play soccer. Anyone high school age or older is welcome.

Bring a white shirt, bring a dark shirt, do not bring a grey shirt. Do not bring a “kinda grey” shirt. It isn’t that complex. Bring water too.

Let’st try to kick off at 8:30. See you thee.

Do Australians Play Soccer? 8:30 at McCarthy

The field at McCarthy is big. So, even if we break into two games there is plenty of room to run. Saturday’s weather looks rainy, but Sunday looks perfect. I predict that the field will be green at McCarthy.

Let’s start at 8:30 and play until at least 10:30. White shirt and dark shirt.

BTW, if anyone sees our lost Aussies, please help them find the field.
