Pre-Independence Day Soccer

We had a bumper crop of 27 players last week for an awesome game on the big field.  Some people will be away this week, but that may mean a game on the 8v8 field with perhaps a little less running.  I thought I was going to be away, but as it turns out I’ll be here, so I’ll be there at South Row tomorrow morning and hope to see you.  As always, bring your cleats (yes, Bruce, this means you!), a water bottle, and a white and dark shirt–and anybody you can drag out to the field at 9 a.m.  Check this web page if it’s raining for an update on the game.

Father’s Day Pickup Game at South Row Field

The weather forecast looks perfect for this Sunday’s pickup game, and my son is even thinking of getting out of bed to join me on the field as an early Father’s Day gift, so bring your son or daughter (U12 or older suggested) as well and enjoy a glorious morning with them on the field. As always, remember to bring a white and dark shirt, water bottle and cleats. See you there!

Check Blog for Final Word about Pickup Soccer on Sunday, June 12th

The weather is looking a bit iffy for tomorrow morning, and your loyal blogger is away this weekend for a funeral, so I’d like to leave it to all of you to decide if the conditions are decent enough to play tomorrow.  Just post your thoughts in the comments section by 8:30 tomorrow morning, and be sure to check the blog comments before heading over to the field.  If conditions are good enough to play, plan to be at South Row Field at 9:00 with a white and dark shirt, cleats, and a water bottle.  I’ll keep my fingers crossed that you are able to get the game in!

Memorial Day Weekend game — Sunday at 9AM

We’ll be out there as usual this Sunday morning at 9 a.m. at South Row Field–there has been some talk of changing the venue to Murphy Field in the future to allow for a full field 11 v 11 game with netted goals, so if you’re late and there’s no one at South Row then go around the corner to Murphy Field (off Mill Road) to find us.  Be sure to bring your cleats, a water bottle, and white and dark shirts; see you there!

Pickup Soccer this Sunday, May 22nd

We dodged the raindrops last Sunday, and it looks like we can do it again this Sunday.  Please come prepared with a white and dark colored shirt (really, bring both), water bottle, and cleats/shinpads.  We’ll get the game started right at 9:10, so please show up by 9:00 at South Row Field so you don’t miss any action.  We had 17 players last week, which was great but with a few more we can move to the 11 v 11 field, so feel free to forward this message by e-mail or Facebook (using the link on the website)–the more, the merrier, newcomers are always welcome!

Mother’s Day Special: Moms Play for Free!

You heard that right, gentle reader: this Sunday only, bring your wife (or girlfriend, but preferably not both) to the Sunday soccer pickup game and she’ll pay no admission charge.  This special offer is in honor of her special day.  Make sure she’s had a good breakfast (preferably in bed) before strapping those cleats on.

Last Sunday was our first outdoor pickup game of the season and we had a great turnout, with 20 players under sunny skies for a very fun morning of 10 v 10 soccer.  Our British Challenger soccer coach Ross learned not to underestimate us yankee footballers on the pitch as we denied his bids time and time again in the early going, and we learned not to underestimate his speed, footwork, and scorching shots on goal as he broke through for several very pretty goals late in the game.  It was a really great way to start the season and left us all hankering for more.

While a number of players will be absent this week (because we know better), a quick poll showed that there should still be a decent turnout for a small-sided game this Sunday, so bring your cleats, light and dark shirts, and a water bottle for a 9:00 game and you’ll still make it home in time to do those breakfast dishes.

Offsides!

That was the cry of the day last week.  Again, a good number of people showed up and, as you can tell from the heading, it was a spirited game. (Benny, we missed you and therefore had to call other people offsides!)  It was such a nice day that we decided we would give it one more try.  The weather for this coming Sunday 11/28 is forcast to be in the mid 40’s and sunny.  So, lets get one more run in.  What do you say?  How about, “Goal!” this time? 😉

Please arrive by 9AM so we can get started by 9:10.  See you there.
