Father’s Day Washout

It is raining pretty hard with more on the way according to the weather radar.  So it may be best to call off the pickup game for today.  Please see the previous post regarding the insurance binder reminder.  And have a very happy Father’s Day!  See you next week.

Father’s Day Pickup Soccer

It appears the remnants of tropical storm that hit Texas earlier this week will be hitting us tomorrow morning.  But it is unclear how much wind and rain we will be getting.  One source says not much while another says heavy rain.  I am not encouraged about it being a good day to play.  However, I will post again at 8AM tomorrow morning to indicate if we are calling it off or not.

Remember, if we do play, it will be on the field behind McCarthy Middle School.  If it already occupied we will move to Innovation Academy Charter School in Tyngsboro.

Also, we need to purchase another year of insurance (see previous post) so if you haven’t paid Lawrence, please bring some $$ so we can continue playing.

Location Change & Insurance Binder

Due to the fact that CYSA has closed all of their fields for the summer to perform maintenance, we need to change location for the summer.  We are told that the new artificial turf field behind McCarthy Middle School is available for use – as long as some paying customer isn’t using it.    So, starting Sunday June 21, 2015 we will meet at the McCarthy Middle School turf field for our games.  However, if the field is in use, we have another option to take our game 5 minutes up the road to the Innovation Academy Charter School in Tyngsboro.  We have been given permission to play there if needed.

See the Directions menu item for the address of both the McCarthy Middle School and Innovation Academy Charter School.

For at least the first week, let’s meet 15 minutes earlier than normal in case we need to take the game up the road.

Regardless of where we play, we need an insurance binder to cover the property damage and any injury liability.  Our binder from last year runs out after our June 21 game. Therefore, we will need to collect funds to renew the policy.

We are looking for $40 from each adult and $20 from the college kids.  You can put the money in the mail or drop it at Lawrence’s house.

Lawrence’s address is:

Lawrence MacDonald
15 Reid Road
Chelmsford, MA 01824

Or you can text/call Lawrence at 978-729-6805 if you have questions.  Remember, this policy covers us from June 2015 through May 2016, all for the price of what we usually pay for 4 weeks of indoor soccer.  This is a good deal.

See you at the field on Father’s Day!

Reminder: Still at Murphy Field on 6/14

Yes, this is our last week playing at Murphy Field before CYSA does maintenance and rests the fields for the summer.  Stay tuned for details on where we will be playing in upcoming weeks.  Most likely it will be the turf field behind McCarthy School but we will know more soon.  See you on Sunday at 9AM at Murphy!

Perfect Day to Play

Weather looks perfect for soccer tomorrow.  70’s and sunny.  I will see you at Murphy fields at 9am.  Remember a white shirt and a dark shirt.  I hope you can all make it.  We have some news about the fields for the summer, too.  We will discuss it and I will post the results tomorrow afternoon (if I remember).  See you there!

Possible Rain In the Morning

So, there is a 50% chance of rain around 10AM Sunday morning.  Since we start at 9AM, let’s assume we are playing in the morning.  If it starts raining early (before 8AM) then I will post a cancellation, so please check the blog before you leave the house.  Keep your fingers crossed and bring a dark and a white shirt to Murphy field.  See you there.

Great Turnout Last Week

The Mother’s Day Argument from the last blog post must have worked.  We had around 21 people show up to play last weekend and had a great, spirited game.   The participation of some young ladies was a reminder that this pickup game is not just for the guys.  Ladies, come on out and have a run.  The weather should be good this week as well.  So, bring a white and a dark shirt and some water for the 9AM start time to Murphy Field.  Once the CYSA season is over, we will try to get a larger field to support the increased numbers.  But Murphy Field will have to do for now.

Planning for Mother’s Day

So, you are sitting around on a Friday night thinking how you would love to play soccer on Sunday morning but it is Mother’s Day.  Bummer, you may have to miss your pickup game.  But hold on!  Before you reject the idea of playing completely, let’s do a little rethink, here.  What would your wife/mother really want on Mother’s Day.  I can think of a few things:  1)  To sleep in and not be bothered until around 11:30AM.  2) To have their loved ones happy and energized, so they can make that special person a nice Mother’s day dinner (not breakfast).

Both of those can be accomplished if you come play soccer this Sunday at 9AM at Murphy field.  Just sneak out of the house – really quietly – and come play.  Then stop by and pick up groceries on the way home to cook whatever that special person wants for dinner.  It’s a win-win!!!  So, I hope you can make it.  I will be there.  Remember, bring a white and dark shirt and some water.  It is supposed to be hot!

But It’s a Good Pain

This past Sunday’s game was perfect for playing. It was sunny and in the mid-60’s. We played 6v6 on the U12 field at Murphy Fields in Chelmsford and I must say, I am walking a bit slower today – the pain! It has been a long winter so we are still trying to get our legs under us, although the level of play is looking a bit better. We actually even had one of the college kids show up (way to go, Steve). Having him show up was like seeing the first robin of the spring. School must be almost over and the college gang will soon fly home for the summer – and start showing up for our pickup games, I hope.

For those of you that may not know the backstory to our Sunday morning games, it started many years ago as a way for some CYSA coaches, who spent all week watching kids play, to actually get on the field and play for themselves in a fun but competitive environment (no refs, keeping it fun). It has grown to include CYSA players, both past and present, and people from all over who just want to get touches on the ball. The game is open to everyone who loves soccer, with CYSA coaches, parents, and older CYSA players (ages 12+) especially welcome to attend.

We currently are playing at Murphy Fields (see directions via the About menu item) but note that we have been known to move fields from time to time so please subscribe to this blog so you will get notifications of any changes. To subscribe, please add your e-mail address to our spam-free private list using the button on the right side of the web page. You can manage your subscription by changing or deleting your e-mail at any time.

Games start at 9AM on Sunday mornings, weather permitting. We play white shirts vs. dark shirts so please bring one of each so that we can create even teams. As stated above, we are currently on the U12 field but if attendance increases as it usually does in the summer, we can try to move to a full 11v11 field. But for now, with most everyone out of shape, the smaller field is a good thing.

If you have any questions, feel free to post a comment to this blog and someone will try to provide an answer. See you at the field!
