The most perfect time of year for soccer

Those of you who know me (and many of you have known me for many years) know that I think EVERY day is a perfect day to play soccer. But there’s just something wonderful about playing this time of year.

There is a nip in the air in the morning, but the temperatures quickly get to an almost ideal temp by the time the game really gets going. Warm enough, but not too hot. Humidity is usually low. The leaves on the trees are colorful. It feels like the game was just made for October. As perfect as it feels, you know in the back of your mind that these ideal conditions don’t last. November is generally a mixed bag. Then we are done playing outdoors on the big grass fields until next spring. When the weather is right, October is just so perfect.

The weather forecast for this Sunday looks great. I know that the Patriots are playing the morning game. Just record that and watch it when you get home. PLAYING is so much more fun than watching people play. Yardwork can wait until the afternoon, or you should get that out of the way on Saturday. Come play. Don’t watch the clock. Just play as long as we can.

When you are doing yardwork and errands, wear your grey shirts. On Sunday mornings, bring a white shirt and a colored shirt. Turn your phone off. Don’t look at your watch (or ask Dave what time it is). Just play.

8:30 AM at Murphy Field.
