I know that I have occasionally joked around. But I seriously think of soccer as quintessentially American. Not invented here. Not widely played here until recently. Not considered one of the major sports. So, why do I think of it as quintessentially American?
Everybody plays soccer. Everybody watches soccer. Being on a soccer field is to often be playing with people born in Europe, South America, North America, Asia, Africa, and Australia — all at the same time. That’s why. I love it.
I love Sunday mornings. I love playing with all of you. Please come out to play. Murphy Field at 9:00 AM kick-off. See you there.

P.S. The flag is not red, white, and grey. Bring a white shirt and a dark shirt.
